Life In A 'Famous' Town

It never ceases to amaze, and amuse, me how people are so snobbish about where they live. I don't know if it's an English thing or if it happens in other countries as well, but people are obsessed about where they live. I live in a town called Borehamwood. We have a film studio in our town, and a BBC Television studio. The film studio is called Elstree Studios. Why? There is a town called Elstree a couple of miles away, which is a bit 'posher' than Borehamwood. But I live in Borehamwood and I'm proud of it. Is it the fact that 'Famous People' visit our town regularly?
And people know Elstree Studios because of Star Wars. At the BBC they film Eastenders. Our other claim to fame is Big Brother. Whatever the reason, this so called 'postcode snobbery' does make me laugh, and all because of film and television studios and stars and famous people visiting our little town! I don't care about all that. I'm just proud of my hometown, and it does provide an interesting topic of conversation and the chance to see famous people in the local supermarket. |
