Newbie Nightmares

When I started my online journey to make some money I didn't realise it would be so hard! I did all my research, or so I thought, only to be bombarded by hundreds of emails daily all offering conflicting advice!! I finally waded through all the info and found I definitely needed: 1. A list. The money is in the list! 2. A domain name. 3. A squeeze page so that I can build my list. 4. Something to give away to entice signups to my list. Ok, I purchased my domain. That was easy!! Next I tried to set up a squeeze page. Hmmm....I still don't have a squeeze page!! I read everything I could get my hands on to try and get up a squeeze page. 'Just' do this, it's easy the techie geeky computer guys declare! Guess what? It's NOT easy!! Specially if you're a technophobe like me. Now I have a problem. Steps 1, 3 & 4 are null and void for now. Well, that's not strictly true. I got one of these business in a box deals. All I needed was a domain name. Yes, finally I could get up and running! Now I was getting excited! Here, I must admit I cheated. My brother is one of those techie, geeky guys, and within a few minutes he had it all uploaded and ready to go. Well, not quite.... There was no optin form and no complete instructions as to how to add one (by this time my brother had gone). I'm still no further on in my quest for my presence on the web, and I'm getting more frustrated and dejected as time goes on. I am now trying to set up a blog and hopefully getting an opt-in form on there. I won't give up as I have ambitions and the drive to be successful, and I will realise my dream sooner rather than later.

Oh my... The key here Jackie is to NOT give up. Everybody in the beginning has gone through this. You are going to keep getting all kinds of stuff in your email inbox - some of it relevant, and some not. Some of it will be simply crap. And you may not be able to know the difference at first. Here's what I learned: Most "business-in-a-box" concepts will not end up working for you for one reason or another. You may end up flitting from one idea to another, and all you will end up doing is giving money to other people, and growing increasingly frustrated. Not everybody is comfortable with the idea of a "squeeze page". I don't like them. You are better off deciding what it is YOU want to do. What talents do YOU have. Build a business around what you know you are good at. Everybody has something. Sit yourself down and give that some serious thought. Figure out how much money you are prepared to invest in your business. Once you have done that, design your website around your concept. Get someone who has the talent to design your website for you. You probably know someone, or someone who knows someone. A Google search on web designers will list thousands of people - but going this route will cost you bucks. On the other hand, getting it from a friend may lead to disappointment. Ask around. Look around. Do research before you spend. After that, you get into the wide wonderful world of SEO and marketing. The good news is that you are already writing articles - which is a great form of marketing. You will end up with what will seem to be an endless list of problems to solve. Just solve them one at a time. Expect surprises. Before you know it you will begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is a process.Learn to love the process. But it all starts with a good idea. A good idea that gives value. Hope this helps a little.

Hey Jackie, well done for not giving up. The squeeze page can be a real nightmare when starting out but it does depend on the autoresponder system you choose. A blog can be a great way to set up online. I have created many WordPress powered websites because I love that plugins can turn a simple blog into almost any site that you want.
You can try many different things with blogs. I've noticed that you haven't added any websites to your Qondio profile - it will help you with traffic to your site and extra links to your site will help you improve your search engine rankings. Keep going, it smoke eventually does clear and you too can find your way

Thank you very much for that. I have got a blog, finally, but I'm not happy yet with the content. Hence I haven't posted a link yet. I need to get more self-confidence in my writing ability. As yet I don't think it's good enough for others to read. Daft I know, but I'm growing in confidence daily. I think!!
